Fayez Thawer

Fayez is the Managing Director for Tasico Hospitality, a family-owned hotel ownership company established in 1982. As a second-generation hotelier, he oversees the acquisition, development and daily management of hotel properties in Canada and the US. Earlier this year, he was named as one of Canada’s Top Entrepreneurs by IVEY Business School at Western University. And in 2016, he received the designation of Ottawa’s Top 40 Under 40, an award which recognizes business leaders in the National Capital region.

He received his hospitality management certification from Cornell University and studied both Biology and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College, respectively.

Fayez is an avid volunteer and has serves in various capacities with the Aga Khan Council for Ottawa, the Aga Khan Museum, Aga Khan Foundation Canada, The City of Ottawa, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Algonquin College and Jubilee Hospitality Association of Canada.

President – Hotel Association of Canada

Susie Grynol is an accomplished association executive with over 12 years of experience managing complex industry issues and delivering successful political outcomes.

Susie’s political career began in 2000, where she served as a Page in the Canadian Parliament, followed by 5 years of political legislative and parliamentary committee work on the Hill. While on the Hill she also completed a degree in Political Science and History.

In 2005, Susie launched her career in the association sector, where she rose to Vice- President at two national trade associations, managing federal advocacy issues for engineering firms and retail companies.

Susie has received multiple awards of recognition for both academic and professional performance. In 2010 she was named Valedictorian of her Certified Association Executive Program, has won national awards for her work on advocacy issue campaigns, two Programs of the Year awards from the Canadian Society of Association Executives and was honoured with the Chairman’s Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Consulting Engineering Industry.

Executive Managing Director – Colliers International Hotels

Alam Pirani is Executive Managing Director of Colliers International Hotels based in Toronto, Canada. He leads a team of professionals responsible for hotel investment advisory services in Canada and specific markets in Latin America/Caribbean. Alam’s specialized experience is in sourcing equity and debt capital for hotel and leisure investments, negotiating management and joint venture agreements, as well as valuation analysis for hotel, resort and leisure-related assets. Since joining Colliers in 1991, Alam has been directly involved in portfolio, single asset and debt transactions with a market capitalization of over $8 billion, acting on behalf of REIT’s, public companies, institutional investors and private capital sources. Prior to joining Colliers, Alam was with the hotel and leisure time industries consulting firm of Laventhol & Horwath, where he was involved in advising clients on development, valuation and strategic planning in the lodging industry.

President – CFO Capital

Since 2004, Mark Kay has owned and operated CFO Capital, a commercial mortgage brokerage firm and mortgage fund. CFO has financed billions of dollars in hospitality, as well as other asset classes including apartments, student housing, retail, industrial, office, medical, and land. CFO provides not only term financing but also ground up construction and conversions. Prior to CFO, Mark Kay a graduate from The University of Toronto with a major in Finance and Economics has worked in Commercial Real Estate at the Business Development Bank of Canada, specifically focusing on owner user, investment properties, management buy-outs and company acquisitions.

Vice President Real Estate and Development – Hyatt Hotels

With nearly 20 years of hospitality experience, Scott currently leads all real estate activities and brand growth for Hyatt’s global platform in Canada. Following his graduation from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Scott began his career in operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Australia which then lead to progressive roles with Fairmont, Delta and Choice Hotels International. From 2010 through 2014, he served as executive director of development for Delta Hotels and Resorts, where he was instrumental in Delta’s growth in prior to its sale to Marriott. Scott joined Chicago based Hyatt Hotels Corporation in early 2015 as their Vice President, Real Estate and Development for Canada.
